???? You Surround Me With a Song ????

My new favorite song: No Longer Slaves from Bethel Music.   It's on repeat.  It's not even a new song, but it just jumped out to me today and it's been on repeat ever since.   Here

My new favorite song: No Longer Slaves from Bethel Music.

It’s on repeat.  It’s not even a new song, but it just jumped out to me today and it’s been on repeat ever since.

Here are the details if you want to view it in Amazon:

Bethel Music is one of the gold standards in Christian Worship Music.  I have to confess, I’m not a big fan Christian pop music.  It’s usually just vapid ideas about being happy, and generally does not point to Jesus Christ.  It’s designed to be radio-friendly and nothing else.  Not my cup of tea.

But Christian WORSHIP music is very different.  We’re talking Hillsong, Chris Tomlin, Bethel Music and many others.

If you haven’t heard “No Longer Slaves”, get ready to have a new favorite!

Lyrics:

First I want to give you the lyrics:

“No Longer Slaves”

You unravel me with a melody
You surround me with a song
Of deliverance from my enemies
‘Til all my fears are gone

[2x]
I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God

From my mother’s womb
You have chosen me
Love has called my name
I’ve been born again into your family
Your blood flows through my veins

[4x]
I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God

I am surrounded
By the arms of the father
I am surrounded
By songs of deliverance

We’ve been liberated
From our bondage
We’re the sons and the daughters
Let us sing our freedom

[2x]
You split the sea
So I could walk right through it
My fears were drowned in perfect love
You rescued me
And I will stand and sing
I am a child of God.

Yes, I am
I am a child of God
I am a child of God
Yes, I am
I am a child of God
Full of faith
Yes, I am a child of God
I am a child of God

[3x]
I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God

As I listen to this song, Bible verses jump out at my left and right.  I want to take a look at a couple of them.

From the opening verse:

You surround me with a song
Of deliverance from my enemies

This is ripped directly from Psalm 32:7:  “You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.”

Another:

I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God

This is Galatians 4:7:  “Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.”

Another:

I’ve been born again into your family
Your blood flows through my veins

This comes from many places, but these come to mind:

1 Peter 1:3:  “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”

Romans 6:4:  “Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.”

Romans 11:  “17 But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, although a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing root[b] of the olive tree, 18 do not be arrogant toward the branches. If you are, remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you. 19 Then you will say, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.” 20 That is true. They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand fast through faith. So do not become proud, but fear. 21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you. 22 Note then the kindness and the severity of God: severity toward those who have fallen, but God’s kindness to you, provided you continue in his kindness. Otherwise you too will be cut off. 23 And even they, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God has the power to graft them in again. 24 For if you were cut from what is by nature a wild olive tree, and grafted, contrary to nature, into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, the natural branches, be grafted back into their own olive tree.”

One song, with actually not that many lyrics, chalked full of so much Biblical truth!  I love it!

Here’s an amazing live performance, you’ll probably want to just put this on loop (longer version):

I want to know what you think….

Do you love this song?

What’s your favorite Christian worship song right now?

Not to us, O Lord, not to us,
But to Your name be the glory
Because of Your love and your faithfulness!
