ELECTED OFFICIALS BASH CHRISTIANITY

A recent event for the LGBT community drew Joe Biden, the US former vice president, as a keynote speaker. During his address that the fundraiser, he attacked Christians in his statement, “These forces of intolerance remain determined to undermine and roll back the progress you have all made. They are a small percentage of the American people – virulent people – some of them the dregs of society.” He went on to say that President Trump was making use of the White House as a “bully pulpit”, further stating that he was siding with those “forces of intolerance” (i.e., Christians).

In response to this, the president of the Family Research Council, Tony Perkins, said that the former vice president’s insults were very telling about the amount of hostility that is in place towards conservatives, especially those who happen to be Christians and hold to Christian values. He further went on to say that if the liberal agenda manages to gain power in Washington as well as around the nation, that Christians would be subjected to that level of hostility and hatred from liberals and those with a social justice goal in mind.

There seems to be an ongoing, ever-worsening hostility towards any Christian who happens to adhere to God’s standards for sexual purity. Opposing the leftist radical agenda is certainly not a popular stance to have in this day and age. At this point, however, people are beginning to fear that it will even become a dangerous one, if the government powers revert back to the left. For any Christian, this should be a vehement wake-up call about picking up the power of voting. We know that some don’t even trust that process, but to not vote at all leaves a Christian voice unheard. After awhile they start to add up, and before you know it, that amounts to powers being put into place that might not have, if the Christian voice were actually heard for what they truly believe.

Not a New Attack

These same types of attacks have happened before, and some may remember the statements made by 2016 Democratic presidential hopeful, Hillary Rodham Clinton. She spoke against against Trump supporters who were happy with the fact that Trump had addressed the Values Voter Summer. It was the first time that a presidential candidate had done so since it was established in 2006.

She was quoted by TIME as saying, “You could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables, right? The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic Islamaphobic – you name it … and unfortunately, there are people like that – and he has lifted them up.”

However, losing the election did nothing to deter their views on Christians, as Clinton’s emails addressed, as they mocked both Catholics and evangelicals as “backwards”.

Most recently, Biden has been about his work for LGBT privileges when he launched the “As You Are” LBGTQ family acceptance campaign. One of the biggest focal points of the radical campaign is the number of stories from parents, children and educators who are of the LGBTQ agenda, who further try to force that agenda onto others. They attempt to force the embracing and acceptance of the different “alternative lifestyles” as things that are not to be avoided, but rather celebrated with a vigor.

A new release for the As You Are ad states, “We set out to inspire, to create communities, to heal families, and to change the broader culture to ensure a bright future for all LGBTQ young people.”

On the Biden Foundation website, Biden attempts to assure his constituents in his statement there, saying, “We’ll use our resources to highlight the harms of family rejection and lift up research, best practices and personal stories to show the importance of family acceptance.”

Garnering Star Power

Hoping to further the agenda of LGBTQ, Biden reached out to enlist the help of such celebrities as Wade Davis, of former NFL fame, as well as Cyndi Lauper, the 1980’s girl rocker. The claim Biden hopes to push forward is that youths who are of the LGBTQ persuasion are constantly victimized, discriminated against and rejected. Both of these celebrities went on to say that these facts are to blame for the high suicide and homeless rates among children who are confused about their gender.

The Executive Director and CEO or The Trevor Project, Amit Paley, said that, “Family acceptance can save lives. Gay, lesbian and bisexual youth are more than four times more likely than their straight peers to attempt suicide, and 40 percent of transgender and gender-nonconforming adults report having attempted suicide at some point in their lives – most of them before the age of 25. That’s why it is so important to support LGBTQ youth and let them know that they are not alone.”

In yet another social justice topic near and dear to the hearts of many of the liberal population, Chelsea Clinton spoke on a Sirius XM radio show about abortion. She said that it would absolutely be “unChristian” to take away the right for women to have legal abortions. “When I think about all of the statistics that are painful, of what women are confronting today in our country and what even more women confronted pre-Roe, and how many women died and how many more women were maimed because of unsafe abortion practices – we just can’t go back to that. That’s unconscionable to me. And also, and I’m sure that this will unleash another wave of hate in my direction, but as a deeply religious person, it’s also un-Christian to me.”

The idea that NOT allowing mothers across this country to murder their babies in the name of convenience is “un-Christian” happens to be unconscionable to us as well, Chelsea. And probably to a great many others who truly ARE, not “religious”, but in a proper relationship with Jesus.

In 1973, the decision made in the infamous Roe v. Wade case, mandated constitutional rights to women with regards to abortion. The abortion rhetoric has come to light since the supreme court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, represents a very real threat allowing that right to continue. With his confirmation, there will be a conservative majority and liberals fear this would create an abortion restriction, according to current rhetoric.

Obama and Christianity

Back in 2015, as many still remember quite vividly, then president Obama said that Christians should not “get on a high horse”, referring to Islam and the atrocities they might commit. He was speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast, where the Dalai Lama was cordially seated, and he went on to speak in details about many of the terrible things that had been done throughout history in Christ’s name. He said this meant that “violent extremism” was certainly not a problem that could be chalked up solely to Islam.

Some of the statements Obama went on to make at that prayer breakfast include, “Humanity has been grappling with these questions throughout human history,” he said, speaking to murder and compassion, “And lest we get on our high horse and think this is unique to some other place, remember that during the Crusades and the Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ. In our home country, slavery and Jim Crow all too often was justified in the name of Christ.”

While politicians and others criticized that speech harshly, it was far from the last we heard from Obama and his supporters on the topic. He did try to lean on the belief that God does not give a spirit of fear, in a manner of backpedaling some would say, when he stated, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. I pray that by his grace, we all find the courage to set such examples in our own lives, not just during this wonderful gathering and fellowship, not just in the public piety that we profess, but in those smaller moments, when it’s difficult: when we’re challenged, when we’re angry, when we’re confronted with someone who doesn’t agree with us, when no one is watching.

Not Just Politicians

While our elected officials are supposed to lead the way in so many ways, they seem to have led a smear against Christians, as recently seen in a recent monologue at The Emmy Awards. It was during this time that Saturday Night Live cast member Michael Che said that his mother had chosen not to watch the Awards ceremony because, “She says she doesn’t like watching white award shows because you guys don’t thank Jesus enough… That’s true. The only white people that thank Jesus are Republicans and ex-crackheads.

The opinion has been given that, if a joke like that were spoken out against Buddhism, Jewish people or Muslims, the backlash would be unspeakable. However, Christian ridicule seems to be the popular thing to do, especially in places such as Washington DC and Hollywood.

On the Other Hand…

Even with as much hatred as there is right now for conservatives, Christians and especially President Donald Trump, Democrats seem to have an increased hatred for the thought of Vice President Mike Pence as well. Looking at the idea of impeaching our current president, the argument was often made, “Well, if we get rid of Trump, then we end up with (Mike) Pence.”

In a new book entitled, “The Shadow President: The Truth About Mike Pence”, the authors argue that he is possibly America’s most successful Christian supremacist. In fact, one of the most famous, or infamous, depending on how you see it, statements made to date was that of Omarosa Manigault Newman, a former aide to the White House. She said, “As bad as you think Trump is, you should be worried about Pence. He thinks Jesus tells him to say things.”

It is also argued by the authors of this book that even though Pence appears pious and religious on the outside, he is simply a power-hungry politician who is just biding his time until he can take over for Trump. They believe that his goal is to create a government that has its basis in Biblical law, something that they are calling “Christian Dominionism”. Never mind that this is also what is being attempted in many places currently, as Muslims try harder and harder to enact Sharia Law in places where they themselves are in power.

Pence has spoken out about the fact that, “No people of faith today face greater hostility or hatred than followers of Christ.” On this fact, at least, it could be that Pence and the authors of “Shadow President” agree. They actually cheered that statement, as the idea that hated Christians was worthy of praise.

Still, others who are just as concerned about what a Mike Pence presidency would look like say that it’s a problem that’s worth dealing with. They believe that getting rid of President Donald Trump is the only way to find out how hard it would be to then deal with the problem that is, they believe, Vice President Mike Pence.

A Closing Word

We think it’s important though, to point out, that is the very Christian population that is constantly blasted by those in celebrity status, to rise above this type of behavior. Many already are, but we issue the call to NOT get caught up in calling names or antagonizing those who choose to speak out against us. The fact is, unbelievers, according to the Bible, are blinded by the god of this world. They are, in essence, blind guides leading more blind, and Jesus said they would both fall into a ditch. As the old term goes, if you give some people enough rope, they will hang themselves.

In the meantime, as Christians ourselves, we should do as the Bible says, praying for our leaders and those in positions of authority. Pray that they would be kept safe, always choose the high road and only do those things that can be considered pleasing in God’s sight. It truly is the only way we, as a country, can get back into the good graces of our God and King.

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14
